Barbara's Mission: August 2011

Hallo und ganz liebe Gruesse aus Malaysia,

Ich habe mich ganz arg gut in meinen ersten 1 ½ - 2 Wochen hier auf dem Schiff eingelebt. Es fasziniert mich wie schnell ich mich Teil von der Gemeinschaft fuehle in einer christilichen Gemeinschaft. Es scheint, obwohl wir ueber 54 verschiedene Laender vertreten und somit auch alle moeglichen Sprachen und Akzente sprechen, haben wir ALLE eine Gemeinsamkeit - Jesus Christus.

Das ist wundervoll.

Ich bin so gesegnet von Gott mit einer 2-Mann Kabine – also zwar sehr sehr klein, aber immerhin nur eine 49 Jaehrige Hollaenderin und ich. Das ist klasse. Gemeinschaftsbad und Toilette ist auch alles sauber und gut.

Die erste Woche habe ich in der Waescherei gearbeitet und habe einen Einblick erhalten warum es so wichtig ist seinen Namen leserlich und deutlich auf die Klamotten zu schreiben. Hm, immerhin sind wir fast 400 Leute an Board. Das hat echt Spass gemacht.

Nach ein paar Tagen Training/Schulung, habe ich nun im oeffentlichen Buecherladen angefangen. Der Bereich ist Deck 4 genannt. Dort finden Besucher von dem jeweiligen Land ( im Moment Malaysia) alles moeglichen Buecher. In der Auswahl von ueber 5000 Buechern sind Romane, Kinderbuecher, Woerterbuecher, Wissenschaft, Business, Biographien, Christliche Buecher, Bibeln, Sport, Gesundheit, Geistliche Gesundheit, Erziehung, Puzzle, und Kinderlernbuecher…letzte Woche habe ich meinen freien Tag im Buecherladen verbracht und habe Kinderbuecher ueber Lachen, traurig sein, grantig sein oder Buecher ueber so interessante Fragen wie - was und wo ist der Himmel? Was soooo gut.

Ich wuerde Dir/Euch gerne zeigen was wir hier so alles machen. Gestern und vorgestern hatten wir ueber 11.500 Besucher im Buecherladen. Wow! Das ist soo gigantisch. Auch waren gestern einige Muslime dabei, das war besondern toll fuer uns.

Meine Aufgaben bestehen von Ticketverkauf, Willkommen und Besucher zaehlen, Buecher aufraeumen und auffuellen, Information und Ansagen machen, Kasse … Jede Stunde aendert sich mein Program in der Frueh oder Spaetschicht. Wir arbeiten von 9Uhr bis ca 23 – 24 Uhr.

Morgens haben wir immer zusammen Devotion – Andacht von 7.45 Uhr bis 8.30 Uhr. Heute morgen haben wir Psalm 139 gelesen und uns darauf aufmerksam gemacht, dass es wichtig ist Gottes Anerkennung und Zustimmung zu erhalten. Viel wichtiger ist Gott als die Zustimmung von anderen Menschen, weil Gott alles ueber uns weiss. Er weiss unsere Taten aber auch Gedanken. Das ist echt ein super Psalm.

Auch habe ich ein Buch angefangen, das ich ueber die naechsten 40 Tage lesen moechte. Jeden Tag ein bisschen.

The purpose driven life - What on earth am I here for? von Rick Warren. Ich habe es geschenkt bekommen und so viele haben bereits kommentiert, dass dies ein sehr gutes Buch ist.

God created you. How come that we find it so hard to discover who we are? God created us - I did not create myself so there is no way I know what I was created for.
If I handed you an invention that you have never seen before, you wouldn't know its purpose, and the invention itself wouldn't be able to tell you either. Only the creator or the owner's manual could reveal its purpose.

Alles ist von Gott und von Gott geschaffen. … Alles fing in Gott and und hat in Gott seinen Sinn…

Ich existiere weil Gott es will, ich bin von Gott gemacht und fuer Ihn geschaffen. Nicht wir haben uns geschaffen, sondern Gott hat uns geschaffen und deshalb faellt es uns auch schwer den Sinn in uns zu verstehen. Wenn ich dir eine Erfindung in die Hand gebe die Du noch nie vorher gesehen hast und das Geraet Dir nicht sagen kann fuer was es ist, dann weisst Du nichts damit anzufangen. Nur der Erfinder oder die Anleitung kann den Sinn deutlich und verstaendliche machen so dass es gebraucht werden kann.

Ihr seht, diese Zeit ist sehr kostbar. Ich wachse, werde durchaus auch gedehnt und aufgewuehlt und herausgefordert, aber gleichzeitig bin ich hier in einer sicheren Umgebung und habe auch die Moeglichkeit naehr zu Gott zu kommen und mich mit IHM zu unterhalten.

Ansonsten haben wir auch 1 x pro Woche Community Day - an solchen Tagen gehen wir hinaus in die nahe liegenden Gemeinden und arbeiten entweder mit Prostituierten, Heimatlosen, Schulen, Kindergarten, Kirchen, Gemeindeprojekte... mit um den Menschen hier Hilfe zu leisten. Das Schiff segelt das ganze Jahr ueber um die ganze Welt.

Der Tag ist voll hier, aber ich bin dankbar, dass ich hier sein darf. Vielen Dank fuer Euch alle die mich in dieser Zeit unterstuetzen.

Dear friends,

I feels so blessed to be here. I have a great time serving God, spending time with fellow believers and drawing closer to God.
Just a few snap shots of my first week. Most of you know what Logos Hope is all about. Bringing Knowledge, Hope and Help to nations around the world.

I have been settling in so well and I am still amazed how easy it is to feel part of the ship community. No matter how many countries or languages we represent, we have all one main core - Jesus Christ! Praise the Lord.
Straight away, one feels such a connection, even though we don't know anything of each others life. It's amazing.
God blessed me so much with my experiences here on board. I feel part of it, I feel connected to the ship and its mission and cores, I am stretched, challenged and no matter where I am, I have the opportunity to share with someone or draw closer to God.

In the first 1 1/2 weeks I have been helping out in the laundry, So much fun! I learned to appreciate when someone wrote his name clear and readable on his/her clothes and I feel blessed to bless others to do their laundry.
After a few days of training, I am now working at deck 4 - this is the public area with the book fair, the story of life - protical son - deal bag area with more books for special price and the I-cafe. Really, if we are honest, the over 5000 different book titles are all a great price. I wish I could show you all what I do. In the book fair you can find anything from novels, dictionaries, science, business, fairytails, kids educational books, christian books, bibles, health, fitness, biographies.... anything. It's an amazing selection that I think everybody will find something there. Last week I spend my day off by sitting in the book fair and reading kids books about laughing, feeling grumpy, sad or inquisitive questions such as what is heaven.?

My tasks include selling tickets, welcoming and counting visitors at the gangway bottom, tidying and helping in the book fair - customer service, information desk and making announcements, cash desks, doing the daily orders and finding the books in the book hold... It's great fun and we work in two shifts from 9am - 11/11.30pm.
The deck 4 is open to visitors from 10 am until 10 pm.
The last two days we had over 11.000 visitors!!! Amazing!

I am loving it being here and I feel at home. I hope you are all well.

Oh, I am so excited. I am on my travel blog and I have arrived on the ship LOGOS HOPE.

The internet is very slow here, so there will be times when I am not able to update my blog regularly. sorry for that. I am also not able to email you as my email account is blogged due to security issues.

I already had a great time. We had 2 days orientation and I will start work tomorrow.
It is so wonderful how quickly one feels "at home" meeting other Christians. Life could be so much easer sometimes. It is such a great experience to be here with another 350 or 400 Christians for the same cause.

I was so blessed on my arrivial as there is another woman who is a bit older than me and the both of us got a 2 bed cabin to share. Usually, we are in a 10 bed cabin for the short term program STEP that we are attending. Praise the Lord!
Food is great, fresh fruit, salads .. and great people.

I am also glad that I met my friend Susie again who I will spend my day off with today.

From tomorrow on I have the prevelage to serve God and this wonderful ship in the laundry for a week.

From next week onwards and for the rest of my time on the ship, when the ship is open to public, I am excited to work in the bookfair. Good books for all!. Any kind of books, such as science, children, novels, drama. All for a very affordable price to bring knowledge, help and hope.

I will be welcoming guests, giving a small introduction, speaking with them in the bookshop and filling up shelves and so on. I am sure it will be amazing.

There will be always work to do as we expect lots of visitors between 10 am and 10pm. I am sure you all would find a handful of books you could not resist. Amazing and it's a huge set up.

On Saturday we go on a helping project, renovating a school and giving them help for a whole day. Awesome.
